Dragon Ball Creator Akira Toriyama’s Manga Inspires New Adventure Game ‘Sand Land’
During this year’s Summer Games Fest, Geoff Keighley hinted at a game featuring characters from a renowned manga artist, and it turned out to be true. Bandai Namco has developed Sand Land, an adventure game that showcases character designs by Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball’s Goku, the art of the Dragon Quest series, the characters of Chrono Trigger, and many other manga titles. Sand Land was originally a brief manga series penned by Toriyama in 2000, but it has now been transformed into a game. (The trailer even includes a charming scene of the protagonist playing with what appears to be a Gameboy Advance.)
We got a quick preview of what Sandland will be like, putting you in control of the demonic prince Beelzebub and a cohort of monstrous characters exploring a well, sandy environment. While you can play toe-to-toe with some enemies, you can also control tanks to shoot enemies from a distance or engage other military equipment. It looks like there are a whole bunch of vehicles in the desert. There’s no release date yet, but hopefully we’ll hear more in the coming days.
